Hmm…what about essential oils?

Although I do think that some essential oils in low concentrations may be helpful, via the olfactory system, in aiding relaxation and bringing a sense of calm, and in increasing alertness, mood and focus, and may have some anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, I do not view them as actually having the wide ranging, and often specific, powerful and reproducible effects as are claimed by some companies and popular culture. The good evidence to support the vast majority of these claims simply isn’t there. Taking essential oils internally can be caustic, sometimes even poisonous and it doesn’t take much. These are highly concentrated substances that do not occur in nature anywhere close to the form that is bottled and sold. Just sayin’.
